Coffelt Park

Pheonix, Arizona

Catalyze invited us to create a physical design to translate the outcome of a Health Impact Assessment and deep Community Involvement into community amenities in Arizona’s oldest (and historic) affordable housing development, Coffelt Neighborhood, a 301-unit, 38-acre public housing development in Phoenix, AZ, developed by Gorman & Co.

Our main role was the park design. While we were not directly involved with the overall project and it’s funding, it was funded through a variety of grants and funding sources, including RAD, tax credits, tax exempt bonds, HOME and CDBG funding, as well as other federal, state, local and private dollars to recapitalize the aging inventory of public housing across the U.S. Coffelt was the first project in Arizona to ever be awarded a RAD commitment from the federal government, and has since been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
